What's included in an in-home consultation?

An in-home consultation is a focused, one-time session designed to provide professional guidance on a specific set of design questions or decisions. During our time together, we’ll walk through the relevant spaces, discuss your concerns and goals, and offer practical recommendations you can move forward with independently.We may review questions around furniture or artwork placement, select paint colours, suggest lighting, styling, or potential furnishing purchases, and can pull up product ideas online during the meeting when helpful. If you would like targeted feedback on specific finishes, fabrics, tile, flooring, or other materials, please have the physical samples present in your home for us to review during our meeting.Because consultations are limited to 90 minutes, they do not include full room design, space planning, floor plans or technical drawings, sourcing packages, or follow-up design work after the appointment is over.

Can I flip into a full or semi-full service option following a consult?

Absolutely. Many clients begin with an in-home consultation and later choose to engage us for a larger scope of work. The consultation offers an opportunity to experience our approach, gain confidence in our expertise, and determine whether full-service design is the right next step for your project.Should you decide to move forward, we’ll discuss the expanded scope, timeline, and investment required and prepare a separate fee proposal tailored to your needs.

How should I prepare for my consultation?

To make the most of your consultation, we recommend gathering any relevant floor plans, measurements, inspiration images, product links, quotes, or samples in advance. It’s also helpful to prepare a prioritized list of the decisions or concerns you would most like to address during our time together.If you’d like feedback on specific paint colours, flooring, tile, fabrics, finishes, or other materials, please have the physical samples available in the home. Ensuring that all key decision-makers are present will also help us use the 90 minutes as efficiently and productively as possible.

Can we discuss more than one room?

Yes, we can discuss more than one room during your consultation. Because the session is limited to 90 minutes, we recommend prioritizing the spaces and decisions that matter most. We’ll work through your list as efficiently as possible, but depending on the complexity of each area, we may not be able to address every item within the allotted time and you would have the option to book another consultation or engage us for alternate design work.

Question 6

Will I receive notes or a written summary?

Accepted Answer

Because this is a focused, one-time consultation, a written summary is not included. We encourage clients to take notes and capture any recommendations discussed during the appointment. We may provide quick sketches, or informal measurements, or notations where helpful, but organizing and retaining the information shared during the consultation remains the client’s responsibility.

Question 7

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

Accepted Answer

We require at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an in-home consultation. Because we reserve this time specifically for you and cannot fill the appointed time with another client on short notice, any consultations cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are non-refundable.

What is included in Kitchen & Bath Design + Selections services?

Our Kitchen & Bath Design flexible service includes the planning, drawings, and finish selections needed to create beautifully coordinated and highly functional kitchen & bath spaces. We develop the layout around your lifestyle, storage needs, routines, and overall design preferences.Depending on the project, your package may include floor plans, cabinetry elevations, custom millwork details, and 3D renderings, along with curated selections for cabinetry finishes, counter-tops, tile, plumbing fixtures, hardware, lighting, and paint. Once finalized, you’ll receive a complete design package for your cabinetmaker and contractor to reference during pricing and construction.Typically we include up to 2 revisions (not complete re-designs) of the design, and a single round of re-selects for any material or fixture selection in need of refinement. *Additional revisions and re-selects can be purchased for an additional fee.

Question 9

Can my cabinetmaker or contractor build directly from your drawings?

Our drawings are intended to communicate the design intent and provide your cabinetmaker and contractor with clear reference plans, elevations, details, and selections. They are not official construction or shop drawings.Your cabinetmaker will still need to complete their own site measurements and prepare detailed shop drawings for client or contractor approval before fabrication. Because Urban Theory is not overseeing the project’s construction, your contractor and trades remain responsible for verifying all dimensions, appliance specifications, required clearances, building conditions, and workarounds for any hidden or unforeseen site requirements.

Do you coordinate with trades during construction?

Trade coordination during construction is not included in our flexible Kitchen & Bath Design services. This service is intentionally structured to provide the plans, details, and selections your contractor and trades need while allowing you to manage the construction process independently with your contractor.Should you require additional communication, site involvement, or collaboration with your contractor, cabinetmaker, or other trades, this support can most definitely be added for an additional fee and arranged based on the needs of your project.

How long does the design process typically take?

The Kitchen & Bath Design process typically requires a minimum of 6-8 weeks from the initial consultation and site measure to delivery of the finalized drawings and selections package. Timelines may vary depending on the size and complexity of the space, the number of revisions required, and how promptly feedback and approvals are received.

What happens after the final design package is delivered?

Accepted Answer

Once the final design package has been delivered, our involvement typically concludes and your contractor, cabinetmaker, and trades take over the execution of the project.Should you need continued support, additional design time may be purchased on an hourly basis. This can include occasional site or trade meetings, reviewing shop drawings for approvals, answering design-related questions, or assisting with material re-selections if an item becomes unavailable or back ordered. *Additional support will be quoted separately, as needed.
