MODERN ALPINE SKI CHALET RENOVATION
CONTRACTOR: BANKOWSKI BUILT LTD. | PHOTOGRAPHY: JON ADRIAN | OHAE FINALIST 2025
What began as a dated, hunter's cottage stuck in the 1980's, this private mountain chalet was completely re-imagined as a warm, elevated retreat worthy of the breathtaking Monashee Mountains setting at Big White Ski Resort, BC. Working remotely with our clients living across the country, we assembled the project team and guided every detail from the full design concept and construction drawings through to materials, finishes, fixtures, furnishings, custom artwork, and final installation - construction was completed in an impressive seven months during the ski hill's shoulder season.
At the heart of the home, an incredible two-storey soaring fireplace feature anchors the open-concept living space, while unique touches like the metallic mosaic back-splash tile from Italy brings depth and character to the well-appointed kitchen. Striking oversized wildlife photography throughout the home by acclaimed photographer Brandon T. Brown, vintage snowshoes, and a mix of carefully collected nods to winter life and modern touches give the chalet a sense of place and personality.
The result is a modern mountain home that feels unexpectedly layered, incredibly welcoming, and distinctly connected to life at Big White. Moonshine was also recognized as a 2025 Okanagan Housing Awards of Excellence Finalist in the Kitchen Renovation Over $125K category.
